Many people use unhealthy fat loss techniques that actually backfire and cause them to gain weight.
There are several ways that you can burn fat. However, there are a few unhealthy methods that can take a major toll on your body and actually cause you to gain the weight back. Here are a few unhealthy weight loss methods that can cause you to get fat:
STARVING YOURSELF IS NOT FASTING
It’s important to realize that fasting is not starvation. There is a major difference between
going on a food fast and starving yourself. Fasting is short-term and starvation is considered
long-term. Often times, many people think that if they deprive themselves of food, the pounds
will magically start disappearing from their body. This is not necessarily true. Some people who
starve themselves will actually gain more weight than their initial starting weight. So, if a dieter
has a starting weight of 170 and they lose a quick 20 pounds, they will more than likely gain the
20 pounds back and possibly more. This totally defeats the purpose of losing weight.
Fasting, often referred to as ‘controlled fasting’, is healthy because it detoxifies and cleanses
the body of impurities. When a person is on a fast, they do not exercise. After a time period, a
person resumes back to their regular eating habits (hopefully healthy) and exercise routine.
On the other hand, starvation is when a person completely restricts themselves of food. Some
people will even go as far as exercising while on their so-called starvation diet. The problem
with starvation is that the body doesn’t receive the nutrients and calories to properly function.
Some people fail to realize that when they starve themselves, they not only lose fat, they lose
muscle, bone and water.
You can often tell physically when a person starves themselves because they will have an
unhealthy and drawn appearance. When you diet the right way, you’re more than likely to
have a healthy glow. There’s no point in losing weight to fit into your favorite pair of jeans
when you look like death warmed over. If you want to look and feel healthy, you have to lose
weight the healthy way.
USING METHAMPHETAMINES
Obviously, using drugs can trigger serious side effects. Drugs like methamphetamines should
never be used as a means to lose weight. One of the major problems with using drugs is that
once a person stops using them, they no longer feel the effects of the drug. This can lead to
withdrawal symptoms. It can also lead to gaining back the weight (if not more).
FOOD PURGING
When a person purges, they force themselves to vomit the food from their stomach. Purging
is very similar to bulimia. The difference between bulimia and purging is that the person with
bulimia is addicted to purging. The person who doesn’t suffer from bulimia will only use food purging temporarily as a way to lose a few pounds. Food purging is a very unhealthy habit and it should be avoided at all costs.
When a person purges their food, they’re losing essential nutrients needed to maintain a
healthy body. Many people are unaware that purging can lead to serious illnesses, such as
cancer. Just like starvation, purging can lead to over eating. When you maintain a healthy
lifestyle that includes eating healthy and exercise, you not only lose weight, you can keep it off.
USING LAXATIVES TO LOSE WEIGHT
Some ‘desperate dieters’ will use laxatives to help lose weight. They think that loosening the
stool or triggering bowel movements will help them lose fat. Many people use this method
because it is believed that laxatives can help stop absorption of food.
The major problem with using laxatives is that the food that’s ingested has already entered the bloodstream by the time the laxative starts to perform. The only loss is water weight – not fat. Using laxatives as a diet regimen has several side effects. For example, it can cause dehydration, renal failure, hemorrhoids and even intestinal paralysis.
If you’re serious about losing weight, it has to be done the proper way. Eat healthy, exercise
regularly and get plenty of rest. You will eventually start burning fat.
