Choose functional workout gear made from fabrics such as spandex, polyester or nylon.
There’s no question, anyone who takes pride in their appearance wants to look their best when working out. There are a variety of fashionable and functional workout gear available for both men and woman. However, before you go on a shopping spree for your workout gear, there are few things you need to know. Believe it or not, the type of gear you wear can have a positive or a negative effect on your workout experience. The following are a few tips on how to choose the best workout gear.
CHOOSE BREATHABLE FABRICS
The first thing your going to do is wear workout clothes that absorbs moisture from your skin. This is important if you plan to engage in intense workout routines. Avoid wearing the 100% cotton workout clothes. Cotton fabrics tend to retain moisture against the skin. Wear clothes that are made from nylon, spandex or polyester.
Outdoor Exercise Safety Tip: If you walk or jog outdoors, make sure you wear bright colored clothing, preferably reflective clothing. If you’re biking, always wear knee pads and the proper headgear.
WEAR IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS
Make sure you wear workout clothes that’s related to the exercise or sport you’re involved in. Just because you can get away with wearing yoga pants on a 30 minute walk doesn’t mean you’ll get away with wearing your favorite pair of tennis shoes for your next ZUMBA class. Remember, if you want good results from your workout, you have to dress to ‘flex,’ not to impress. Additionally, you don’t want to suffer from any kind of injuries from wearing the wrong workout gear.
DRESS FOR THE SEASON
Fall is here and before you know it, it will be the cold winter season (depending on where you live). Make sure you dress comfortably in layers and don’t forget to wear a hat, gloves and scarf. You will need to dress nice and warm in order to retain your body heat. And yes, you can prevent pneumonia when you’re dressed warm.
Also, make sure you wear synthetic blends of workout clothing. Don’t forget to wear a waterproof jacket during those inclement weather days.
Safety tip: Try to avoid running when the ground is wet. If you live in an area where it snows, be careful of running on black ice. You might want to consider running at an indoor gym during the inclement weather months.
WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES
Avoid wearing clothes that are too tight. Clothes should support your body while you work out – you should never feel constricted. For example, you don’t want to wear any clothes that will cause chaffing. In contrast, you don’t want to wear clothes that are too loose fitted. There should be a happy medium with your workout wardrobe. Your clothes should feel so comfortable that you’re not even thinking about what you’re wearing.
